Description
In the spring of 2020 many people had to switch to remote work due to COVID19 quarantine. Zoom’s video conferencing software became very popular because of that.
However, as people had to shift many of their business and personal interactions to video calls, in April 2020, media reported that thousands of private Zoom video recordings, including one-to-one therapy sessions, were publicly availableIncreased Accessibility due to the software’s file-naming system.
Zoom names every video recording in an identical way, a simple online search can reveal a long stream of videos elsewhere that anyone can download and watch.Insecurity Zoom could have implemented design tweaks, such as naming videos in an unpredictable way to make them harder to find.
Videos viewed by media included one-on-one therapy sessions,Breach of Confidentiality training orientation for workers doing telehealth calls that included people’s names and phone numbers, small-business meetings that included private company financial statements, elementary school classes, in which children’s faces, voices and personal details were exposed.
Unfortunately, Zoom’s privacy violations don’t end just with those mentioned above. The company has had to contend with one controversy after another. At first, Zoom app on iOS was sending analytics data to Facebook . Following that, Zoom was found to be leaking out email addresses and photos of some users to strangers.
