Facebook owned Oculus announced they will no longer support separate accounts and users will be required to use Facebook account to use the service.
Description
The Facebook-owned company Oculus said support for separate Oculus accounts would end in 2023. Users will need a Facebook account to use Oculus headsets.
Prohibiting the use of the service without having to register for another (Facebook) is an example of Decisional Interference.
Facebook also says that all future unreleased Oculus devices will require a Facebook login, even if you’ve got a separate account already.
Facebook has been slowly integrating Oculus’ platform after buying the company in 2014.
In late 2019, it added new VR social features requiring a Facebook account and began using data gathered through Oculus in ads.
Combining information about Oculus usage with the Facebook data is a form of Aggregation.
In September 2020 Facebook announced it ‘temporarily paused’ selling Oculus headsets in Germany after German privacy watchdog raised privacy concerns
