The White House released a statement about making a public request for information to learn about the automated tools companies use to monitor their employees and see if they are violating any privacy laws as well as prevent worker efforts for organized labor unions.
Description
The White House announced its plan for seeking to understand the design and deployment of automated technologies that companies use to surveil their employees. This came into action after an article by The New York Times revealed eight of the 10 largest private U.S. employers tracked individual workers to assess their productivity. This included RFID badges nurses wear to track their location, office workers with software monitoring keyboard and mouse activity, ect. The investigation hopes to gather relevant data and research to ensure the best practices for mitigating risks to workers is established. There is hope in establishing new policy responses and ensure individuals will be free from unchecked surveillance.
